VOINJAMA, LOFA: Lofa County Representative, Augustine B. Chiwolo, amid increasing road accidents in the country, has expressed concern over road safety in Lofa.
The Lofa County lawmaker has craved the indulgence of the House of Representatives to invite the Inspector-General of the Liberia National Police (LNP) Col. Gregory O. Coleman, to appear before Plenary to give clarity on road safety measures as vehicle inspection is ongoing.
In his communication to the Plenary of the House of Representatives, Representative Chiwolo called for the appearance of the police boss to give clarity/reasons why road traffic accidents are on the increase daily and to give details on the current inspection of vehicles.
“My distinguished Colleagues, I write to seek your timely indulgence to invite the Inspector of Police of the Republic of Liberia to appear before this August body to give clarity/reasons why road traffic accident is on the increase daily and to give details on the current inspection of vehicles,” requests the Lofa County lawmaker.
“Distinguished Colleagues, after a careful review and assessment of the ongoing inspection of vehicles, it has come to my attention and many other citizens that there have been too many road traffic accidents over the past times that have led to death and injuries of innocent people,” he said.
Rep. Chiwolo pointed out that his communication to the House comes on the heel of public concerns.
One of said concerns is why damaged or broken-down vehicles (accident) are not removed from the traffic but rather stay in the traffic and caused lot of accidents.
Public concern has also been raised over the lack of patrol during night on major high ways and why there is no tow trucks assigned on major highways to remove broken down or accident vehicles from the traffic ASAP.
“Our people are also concern why there are limited police assigned in the leeward county, e.g. a district that has a population of over 50,000 inhabitants has only 4 police assigned with no logistics, no communication, no electricity at police station.”
“Also, we want to know why there are no traffic lights at major intersection of street corners in Monrovia; assigned police officers cannot be present during the rainy time and night time,” he among other things added.
