MONROVIA: The Government of Liberia (GOL) on Tuesday, December 17,2024, reaffirmed its dedication to maintaining peace and stability in the country.
Information Minister Jerolinmek Piah acknowledged that while some demonstrators were peaceful, others were attempting to disrupt the country’s stability for their own agendas.
Minister Piah who addressed a press conference at his ministry on Capitol Hill in Monrovia cautioned against individuals who are spreading subversive threats and making statements that compromise national security.
He emphasized that the government is focused on development and its responsibility to uphold the country’s peace as outlined in the 1986 Constitution of Liberia.
Responding to reports of injuries during the protests, Minister Piah firmly stated that no live ammunition was used against anyone.
“There was zero round of live bullets fired… no bullet was fired,” he told the news conference.
He also criticized some media outlets for circulating “unverified claims of fatalities, labeling such actions as irresponsible.
The Minister concluded by reiterating the government’s commitment to ensuring the safety and security of all citizens.
