MONROVIA: Nimba County District#7 Representative, Musa Hassan Bility, says Liberians will never see real fight against corruption until those who are charged with the duty to fight the sleaze can demonstrate that they are ready to do so.

According to Representative Bility, to show readiness, those in the forefront of the war against corruption must sincerely demonstrate their commitments to the fight by making their respective institutions transparent and accountable to the Liberian Nation.

“We will never see a true fight against corruption until those who are charged with this responsibility can show that they are ready to do so,” the Nimba County Lawmaker emphasized.

On his official Facebook page, Representative Bility indicated recently that, to do this, all those institutions that are leading the fight against corruption “must also be willing to clean their houses first and foremost.”

According to him, the Legislature and the General Auditing Commission (GAC), are among the leading institutions that can fight corruption and impunity in Liberia but sadly, both the Legislature and the GAC “have conspired” against the interests of the Liberian people.

“The Legislature is, by law, the only institution that can authorize the audit of the GAC,” Representative Bility wrote.

According to Lawmaker Bility, the Legislature is, by law, the only institution that can authorize the audit of the GAC, it (Legislature) has not been done so since the GAC was created in the country.

Bility further asserted that “the GAC, being the body authorized by law to audit all government Ministries, Agencies and Commissions, has never attempted to audit the Legislature.”

“What a quid pro quo!!! And we are sitting around fooling ourselves that the government is ready to fight corruption, Complete nonsense,” Nimba County Lawmaker wrote on his Facebook page.

Representative Bility further asserted that those who have been entrusted with the authorities to govern the Liberian Nation have conspired against those who entrusted them with governing authorities.

Although the General Auditing Commission (GAC), has not commented on Representative Bility’s Facebook post, the House of Representative, which is the Lower House of the bicameral Liberian Legislature, through its Speaker, Cllr. Jonathan Fonati Koffa, few months ago, called for audit of the House’s pay roll, among others aimed at establishing an atmosphere of transparency, accountability and probity in its management and operation.
The President Pro-Tempore of the Senate, Nyonblee Karnga-Lawrence, made similar audit call to the GAC aimed at enhancing accountability, transparency and probity in the Senate operation. Pro-Tempore Karnga-Lawrence, in a formal communication to the GAC also solicited post-audit recommendations from the Commission aimed at strengthening and enhancing the work of the Senate.
